NATIVE SEED MIXES

Our native seed mixes represent a diverse selection of good quality cleaned species packaged in mixes formulated for specific conditions. They are designed to be adaptable to a wide range of soil and light conditions and will develop a balanced native community within those conditions. The grass and sedge mixes and the forb mixes are priced separately and can be purchased separately. Combined, the formulation of 5 ounces per 1000 square feet will give you the coverage you need in the correct amount for each species. Our seed mixes give you about 20% more in quantity than the industry norm. This slightly higher percentage is because our seed has the awn or fluff still attached for better holding to the soil and possible improved germination. This is the same high quality seed we use for our own production with great results.

Each mix we offer will give you the correct amounts and species for the 6 different environments you may encounter at your site. A species list is available upon request.

Our seed mixes contain 60% grasses and sedges and 40% forbs. You may purchase our pre-packaged mixes to cover 1000 square feet. All of our mixes are sold in 1000 sq. ft. formulas only. If you have a larger area, calculate the size (length x width) to determine how many packages to purchase. We have a limited quantity available. Easy Prairie Seed Mix
This mix is an economical, easy to grow sun prairie combination providing a variety of 10 species of forbs and 4 species of grasses that usually have a high germination rate. It will attract butterflies and provide color from summer through fall.

Dry - Short Prairie Seed Mix
This mix is designed for a low-profile look while encompassing a large diversity of species. Most species will grow to four feet or less. With 19 forbs and 6 native grasses & sedges the mix will perform best on dry to well-drained soils. It is also suitable for slopes, sandy or gravelly soils.

Mesic Prairie Seed Mix
This mix is designed for use in full sun with a wide range of soil conditions from dry to well-drained to wet areas that hold water after rains. This diverse mix contains a wide variety of colorful forbs blooming spring through fall. It will attract butterflies and provide year round interest with the colorful grasses.

Savanna - Part Shade Seed Mix
The savanna mix is formulated for areas under large trees where a native herbaceous flowering plant layer is desired. It can be used with variable sun conditions from shade to part sun. These species are found growing along woodland edges and in dry to mesic woods.

Wet Woods - Streambank Seed Mix
This mix is designed for areas of wet to moist woods (shade to part sun) that may have seasonal flooding along streams. Ten species of forbs and 8 species of grasses and sedges provide a herbaceous layer to replace bare ground or weeds.

Pond Edge - Wet Meadow Seed Mix
This mix of 8 grasses and sedges and 8 forbs can be used for areas with fluctuating water levels such as urban detention basins and in pond or wetland sites that may dry out during summer months. Use this mix in conditions with sun to part sun.

Nurse Crop Information
We have annual rye (Lolium multiflorum) available to hold soil and reduce weed competition.
